Doing scheduled pc clean up tasks and keeping your system as clean possible, clearing out temp files and temporary internet files is all good, but what about other things on your computer wasting space?
By default, Windows XP creates tons of restore points on your computer, every 10 or 24 hours, every time you install a new program or update windows and you can manually create restore points if you feel you need them. The downside to this is that you end up with a large number of restore points that you don’t need, and these restore points can be quite large.
But before you clear them out you need to be sure your system is stable because there will be a brief period where you will not have any restore points.
Just use common sense, if you recently installed a great deal of new software or system updates, you would be better off postponing this technique a week or so to ensure the recent changes isn’t causing any problems.
- Click Start, à All Programs, à Accessories, à System Tools, à System Restore.
- Click to add a check mark beside Turn off System Restore on all Drives, and click Apply.
- You will be warned that all existing Restore Points will be deleted, click Yes to continue.
- All system restore points are deleted. Now you should manually create a restore point.
- Click Start, à All Programs, à Accessories, à System Tools, à System Restore.
- Click Create a Restore Point, and then click Next.
- Give you restore point a name, like “date and restore point after deletion”.
