What is the Spoolsv.exe process?
The actual Spoolsv.exe is an executable file that handles printing processes in Windows, it is responsible for queuing printing tasks. This file is a core Windows file and will load automatically on start up. If Spool.exe is causing high CPU usage errors it is commonly caused by a corrupted print file that is stuck in the system32 folder.
Do the following to attempt to fix the problem:
- Go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services and then stop the Print Spooler Services.
- Turn of the printer
- Navigate to C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\PRINTERS and delete all files found in that folder.
- Turn the printer back on and restart the spool service found in step 1.
This should dramatically decrease Spoolsv.exe CPU usage.
If this does not resolve the issue there is a good chance malware has infected your system and has replaced Spoolsv.exe. This process is a known security issue in Windows and is commonly used by hackers to open backdoors which will allow them to take control of your computer.
