What is causing the problem?
Newdev.dll error messages might appear while using or installing certain programs, when Windows starts or shuts down, or maybe even during a Windows installation, and are usually are caused by situations that lead to the removal or corruption of the newdev.dll file.
If an error occurs you may be presented with any of the following error messages:
“Newdev.dll Not Found”

Possible Solutions
- 1. Restore the deleted newdev.dll from the Recycle Bin. Sometimes files are inadvertently deleted, in this cases the missing file can be found in, and restored from the Recycle Bin.
- 2. Run Windows Update. Many updates and service packs contain newdev.dll and could repair or replace a potential broken file.
- 3. Scan your registry for errors. In many cases, dll errors are the result of a poorly maintained registry; by using a premium registry cleaner you can detect potential errors and repair them automatically.

Alternative Solution
When installing a new modem you get the following error message:
Error loading newdev.dll
Then…
Administrator privileges are required to install, uninstall or configure the DSL software
Visit the manufacturer of the modems website and try to find the latest drivers for the new modem
For some users, there appears to be an incompatibility issue with Internet Explorer 8 and drivers for some modems, you can try uninstalling IE8 and then install the modem drivers again.
The problem appears to be restricted to BT Voyager and USB modems.
If you need a browser we recommend not using IE8, and use Firefox instead, it’s both safer and faster than IE8, but you can, in most cases, reinstall IE8 after you have successfully installed the modem and its drivers.
