Slow Computer? Time For a PC Clean Up!

admin On March - 2 - 2010

Internet Explorer is the browser that comes preinstalled with Windows, and because it comes preinstalled it has a large user base. But that does not mean you should be using this browser to surf the internet.

There are a number of reasons for this and aside from being pushed on to unsuspecting Windows user through the automatic update feature, it is slow and has several security issues, and even Microsoft warn users that their browser is unsafe.

These security issues are the main reason you should switch to a different browser.

As mentioned earlier, Internet Explorer comes preinstalled with Windows and have a large amount of users, and it is only natural for malware developers to create malware that will affect as many users as possible, so many of them will target Internet Explorer, look for security holes they can exploit to infect internet users with malware.

Fortunately there are several alternatives available.

Mozilla Firefox

Mozilla Firefox is the browser you should go for if you like to have a lot of features at your disposal, it’s fast and you can pretty much adapt it however you like in terms of appearance and by using Add-Ons to make browsing easier.

Do be careful when you add new plug-ins though, they could hold malware, only install plug-ins from trusted sources, and if you see a plug-in you want, do a quick Google search to see if other people have had problems with it.

Just type “plug-in name+malware/adware/spyware/problems” or similar to find out what other people have experienced using this particular plug-in.

And do be careful with toolbars, they are known adware carriers and can be very hard to remove.

Google Chrome

If you like to keep things simple, go Chrome. This browser has an easy to use interface with everything clearly laid out and is one of the fastest browsers I have tried.

Google recently released a new version that supports extensions, because Chrome is a fairly new browser it is not going to have many security issues with these extensions, but a quick search won’t do much damage.

Just follow the same procedure as you would with Firefox to establish if an extension is safe or not.

Opera

Another very fast browser, Opera can also be customized to some degree by the use of plug-ins and widgets.

So if you are still using Internet Explorer, try switching to one of these and see if you won’t have a better browsing experience, it will certainly be safer.
