Anyone who owns a Widows based PC will notice reduction in performance since it was first purchased. It freezes every now and then or programs stops responding or are very slow.
Instead of throwing out your PC or spending a lot of money taking it to the repair shop, ask yourself: why is my computer running slow, and do your best to try and restore your system and get your current system working again.
So here’s a list of 7 fixes you can try today to improve performance, increase computer speed and fix your computer.
1. Update and run your antivirus application. A computer virus can be extremely frustrating, and in most cases they are made by people with nothing to do with their time but to design malicious code that will hurt your computer. They slow down performance or delete important data, so always be sure you have proper antivirus running and update it regularly.
2. Defrag your hard drives. This extremely simple to do and can free up a great deal of processing power and improve performance by rearranging the data on your hard drive to allow for easier access by the system.
- Navigate to My Computer –> Right click C: (or the drive you want to defrag) and select properties –> Click the tools tab and select Defragment Now… Follow the on screen instruction to defrag your hard drive.
This fix is free, but defragmentation can take up to an hour, so set it up and go watch your favorite TV show.
3. Clean up your hard drives. Another very easy step that can improve performance and free up wasted hard drive space is to do a little PC clean up. Follow the steps above, but instead of choosing defragment now, choose disk clean up and follow the instructions.
4. Clean up your registry. The registry is where Windows stores all its operational files and settings for itself and installed programs, but it can become cluttered and contain invalid, obsolete or corrupt entries as time goes by. The best way to clean up the registry would be to use a registry cleaner, both to save time and avoid making mistakes by attempting to repair your registry manually.
We recommend using Reg Genie, it works extremely well and is well worth the investment.
5. Run your anti-spyware software. These nasty applications are designed to track your history and internet habits and send this information to other computers who have no business knowing about what you do online. To get rid of spyware, find and put to good use a good spyware removal tool, it will not only make your browsing safer and protect your privacy, but it will free up processing power as these spyware apps tend to slow down performance.
6. Get more memory for your computer. Your computer has a temporary workspace called RAM that your computer uses for almost everything it does. With new applications demanding more workspace to run, you run the risk of running out of RAM, which would severely slow down performance. So installing an additional 1GB of RAM could increase your computers performance dramatically.
7. Do thorough hard drive pc clean up. The hard drive is the very core of any computer; it stores everything, and moves data to and from permanent storage and working memory (RAM). So we need to keep this device in good condition, get rid of junk files, duplicate files and otherwise remove unnecessary space hoggers. I usually use Duplicate File Cleaner for this task; it scans your computer looking for duplicate files and removes them. Another option is to use software called Advanced PC Tweaker; it’s designed to tweak your system to optimal performance, clean up drive space and other advanced tools.
All the solutions above will only take a few minutes to implement (apart from installing additional RAM), cheap and very easy to implement. So if your computer has been slowing down lately and not performing as it used to, give the above steps a try before you give it in for repair, reinstall Windows or throw it out and get a new one.

I totally agree with your opinion, disk space, Viruses, Spyware and Low Memory will slow down your computer. But I think some registry errors would also slow down your PC.
Over time people tend to install more and more software, and their Windows registry becomes cluttered with redundant data with time. so you just need a Registry optimizer software to remove invalid configuration data and speed up your computer
